On the rim of Piton de la Fournaise
One of the world’s most active volcanoes, Piton de la Fournaise rises to 2,632 metres. You reach it via the Route du Volcan and the Plaine des Sables, a lunar landscape of red ochres. From Pas de Bellecombe, the view plunges onto the enclosure and the Dolomieu crater. Walking together on the slopes of a sleeping volcano is an experience that easily bonds a budding connection.
Mafate, Salazie, Cilaos: the three cirques
The Mafate cirque is reached only on foot or by helicopter: its isolated îlets, perched inside a vast amphitheatre, offer total escape. Salazie, the greenest, grows chouchou vines and spectacular falls like the Voile de la Mariée. Cilaos, to the west, blends thermal baths, vines and famous lentils. Each cirque reveals itself step by step, learning to walk together.
From Piton des Neiges to Trou de Fer
From Cilaos, climbing Piton des Neiges, the highest peak of the Indian Ocean at 3,071 metres, is done at night to catch an unforgettable sunrise. In the north, the Trou de Fer, a canyon of dizzying waterfalls, is best seen by helicopter. On Lyad, Réunion members share their favourite trails; it is up to you to find someone to start the climb with.
